Ralf Kukula was born 1962 in Dresden. Based on his evening course studies in Painting and Graphics in Dresden and his studies at the University for Film and Television in Potsdam-Babelsberg, Kukula started to work as an animator at DEFA-Studio for animated movies.
1993 he founded Balance Film GmbH with focus on the development and production of animated movies and documentaries for cinema and television.
With his voluntary work, for instance as a cofounder of Filmverband Sachsen, he contributes a crucial part to the German film industry. He is also a member of DEFA-Stiftung of the Saxon Culture Senate, the Saxon Academy of Arts and member of the German Filmacademy.
