Boa Vista is home to 19-year-old Leila. A place full of poverty, but also full of beauty and joy. But Boa Vista must make way for a large construction project of the rich upper class. This looming upheaval  threatens her ill father, her friends and her home. In this desperate and hopeless situation  Leila discovers the power of her voice. Her song sounds over the roofs of the favela, calling the people to stand up and fight.

Brazil and the people of the favelas of Salvador seem far away, the problems not ours, the pictures picturesque, the stories rather characterized by a superficial glimpse. But it deceives who thinks so.
The fairytale-like story of heroine Leila has a lot in common with our life in Europe and Germany, at least at second glance. Increasing right-wing populism, gentrification, environmental destruction and climate change are topics that transcend countries and continents. Boa Vista is a socio-critical, emotional story with an individual graphic signature beyond the commercial mainstream.

The project development is funded by the Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung.
